Post-Test Reflection Sheet $1.50

A few years ago I began attaching this post-test reflection sheet to all of my graded tests. I assigned them as homework for my students to fill out and then get signed by their parents.

This was a game-changer.

Not only did I begin to get more effort (and therefore more achievement) out of my students, but I also got parents more involved and created one more layer of communication throughout the school year with them (which they seem to really appreciate).

If you aren’t already doing something like this with your students, download this resource and begin using it as early as tomorrow. The file provided can easily be edited to your liking (it is in Microsoft Word format) or you can simply print it as you see it.

These mid-year check-in worksheets can be used in a variety of very helpful ways:

a. As a communication to parents on how their child is doing in class (both behaviorally and academically)

c. As a way for teachers to gain insight into a student’s plan for success and personal view of their own status and effort

d. As a sheet that students fill out and then you (the teacher) use during parent/teacher conferences shortly thereafter (having this sheet provides a number of helpful talking points when meeting with parents)

All documents provided are in easy-to-edit formats (Microsoft Word) so you can change titles, questions, etc. to your liking. Take a few seconds to make whatever adjustments you want and then print them off to use as early as tomorrow!

Faith Interviews $4.00

Notre Dame sociologist Christian Smith has been on the forefront of studying the rather startling statistics of why so many American teens are giving up their faith as they get older. Here’s a brief summary of his conclusions:

“No other conceivable causal influence… comes remotely close to matching the influence of parents on the religious faith and practices of youth.”

“Parents, for better or worse, are actually the most influential pastors... of their children.”

“One of the strongest factors associated with older teens keeping their faith as young adults was having parents who talked about religion and spirituality at home.”

With these findings in mind, I have tried to create extra opportunities for my students and their parents (and strong Catholic adults in general) to have meaningful conversations of faith. This assignment was designed to do precisely that.

Whether you use this as part of your Confirmation program or simply as a Religion class assignment, you will be emboldened knowing you did your best to provide opportunities for faith growth for not only your student, but their parents and possibly sponsor as well. (Who knows, this interview might spark a parent to come back to the Church or begin to take their faith more seriously…)

There are two sets of parent and Confirmation interviews provided in this download. Each interview provides questions from the following categories:

Just for Fun - Questions to help break the ice and get the conversation going (Example: If you had a time machine, where and when would you travel and why?)

Life - Questions about general life experiences (Example: Who were some of your heroes/role models that you looked up to while you were growing up? What about them did you admire?)

Faith - Questions specifically about the personal faith of parents/sponsors (Example: What have been some of the most profound spiritual moments in your life?

Your digital download includes:

- 2 editable parent interviews

- 2 editable sponsor interviews

- Editable list of instructions for students and explanation to parents/sponsors on the purpose of this assignment

- Editable interview introduction page that can be shared with parents/sponsors if so desired

This has been one of my most influential assignments that I have given over the last decade of teaching - both for me (helps me stay current with teen culture) and my students (helps them begin to think and ask "WWJD?" before mindlessly consuming every bit of destructive media and trend in today's day and age.

Get to Know You Survey and Group Activity $3.00

A fun “get to know you” two-day lesson plan that can be used any time of the year (at the start of the year, when kids are starting to get distracted before Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring, or summer break, etc.). Day 1: Students spend time completing the get-to-know-you survey by themselves.

Day 2: Students move freely around the room with a getting-to-know-my-classmates note guide and get to know one another better. Then students share a little bit with the entire class.
